Digital Illustration

City of Atlantis

For this project, I wanted to make the concept art of "The Sea City of Atlantis" I'll be using photoshop to design the landscapes and animation. While in the illustrator, I'll design the species of fish and coral reefs to create a crips, vibrant designs that would be turned into animation.

For this section, I gathered some moodboard pieces with inspired game called Abzu a gameplay of the diver begins exploring the surrounding underwater environments filled with plant and animal life, in addition to uncovering ancient technology and submerged ruins

After some quick sketching along with the start of some coloring, I gathered enough inspo to start painting on to the phase two of the project. For this section, I am focusing on the detailing and rendering. Finishing off with the gif image of the ripple of the underwater and overlay with the image.

Painting Animation

For the assignment I created the GIF video for the animation of two dancer animation instead one. For the process I first took screenshots of the short clips in order to see the movements on pause to use as part of my gesture drawing. I then began shading the drawings to give more detail in the drawings (which I will update) and then added one of my painting projects I did with a animation for a nice background.

Gradient Mesh

I used the Gradient Mesh tool to trace each petal of the water lily so I could have more control over how the colors blend. After setting up the mesh, I used the Eyedropper tool to pick colors directly from the reference image. Then, with the Direct Selection Tool, I adjusted individual anchor points within the mesh to change the colors and shading. This helped me recreate the soft gradients, highlights, and shadows on each petal. By slowly refining the colors point by point, I was able to make the flower look more realistic and give it a sense of depth and form.

The Three Graces

As part of the concept art project, I collected the idea of creating the modern concept art of "Three Graces of Humanity" each character represents three versions that make up the whole.

To draw it visually I used the moodboard to show the kind of textures I'll be designing in the characters.

One character on the left with the outfits made of crystals to represent the bones and structural of humanity so her form is crystallized and geometric by nature.

Second character in the middle, I used the textures of the deep sea creatures like the glowing luminescent jellyfish. She represents the organic life made or cells and organs of humanity. Her form will be dark and flowing with dress that has very silky and lush textures once it's colored. Her lines is very flowing.

Lastly, the third on the right, she represents the mind or the soul of humanity. Her form would be ethereal and otherworldly and I use anything related to air, clouds, with celestial details to depict her. Her form is the most loose as she'll be wearing the dress made of clouds.

Landscapes in Acrylic

Landscapes in Oil

Landscapes in Watercolor

For this assignment, I choose three landscape images from different evinronments to explores these images using three different brush tool types: Watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Each has pros and cons for using each tools like watercolor is great for quicker painting results but takes longer to paint shadows and create more opaque like color. Oil is the most opaque of the three painting tools, and its great tool to use with smudge or blur tool but it's slightly difficult to create more translucency in the colors. Acrylic, is the merge between the three types and its works well for creating opaque images and use with blur tools, and its not nearly as long as oil painting tool.

Study of Face + Hand

For this assignment, I created a background in teal like color and used the white HB pencil brush for sketching anatomyb of the hands and face study. It was a great anatomy study in understanding how to use the tools in photoshop.
